A mountain walking tour with the all the benefits Norway has to offer for parents alone or with children Grade 9 – 12.
The Jotunheimen National Park
Jotun means Giant in Norwegian and is the area surrounding the highest mountain in Norway Galdhopiggen 2469m, which we will climb during our stay. We will be walking between 5 and 8 hours per day starting with ease days and ending up with a couple of harder ones. We will be staying in mountain huts of the highest standard – some have a swimming pool and sauna! The food is also great and not to forget the Norwegian breakfast, from which we make our packed lunch.
Our programme
| Day one | Flight from Frankfurt to Oslo. Taxi from Oslo to Spiterstulen 1104m. Here we can leave clothing and equipment not needed on the hike. |
| Day two | An easy walking day up the Visdalen valley to Leirvassbu 1401m which is situated on the banks of Leirvatnet. |
| Day Three | We climb a little and then descend to Gjendebu 984m which is located at the end of the world-wide famous Gjende Lake. |
| Day Four | Now we start another exhilarating part of our journey, with breathtaking views. Going down the banks of the Gjende and then over the Bukkelaegrat along the ridge to Sjugurdtiden and down to Memurubu 990m also on the banks of the Gjende. Here we have the possibility to have our rucksacks to be taken to the next hut via boat, so just carrying light day packs. |
| Day Five | Over the Besseggen Grat see picture– This speaks for itself and then down to Gjendesheim, 980m for this day we also have the rucksack transport via boat! |
| Day Six | The longest day climbing up to the Russvatnet Sea and then down to Glitterheim 1400m, which will be rewarded at its end by good food and cosy accommodation. |
| Day Seven | A hike over some of the roughest countryside on this trip called Skautflye and often observed from herds of reindeer. We return to our starting spot Spiterstulen 1104m and enjoy the sauna and a swim for those who will. |
| Day Eight | With a light day pack we climb Galdhopiggen, 2469m and if the Trolls are with us we will have a fantastic view over the ‘Tops of Norway’. |
| Day Nine | Return to Oslo and stay in the Grand Hotel ****and evening meal on banks of the Oslo Fjords. |
| Day Ten | Guided tour of Oslo and then return to Frankfurt. |
